Southside Spoken - free spoken word workshops in Woden and Tuggeranong in June!

I am really excited to be delivering Southside Spoken, a series of workshops on spoken word in Tuggeranong and Woden during June 2019. Hosted by Tuggeranong Arts Centre, there will be four sessions over four weeks, on Tuesday evenings in Woden and Wednesday evenings in Tuggeranong. The workshops will include writing for spoken word and performing - with lots of fun on the way through.

If you have something to say, this might be the way to say it! For more information or to register, email Tuggeranong Arts Centre on info@tuggeranongarts.com

Banff Spoken Word 2019

I have just returned from a two-week residency program at the Banff Centre for Creativity and the Arts in Canada. With thirteen talented and inspiring colleagues, I took part in workshops and discussions led by faculty of Tanya Evanson (Canada), Saul Williams (USA), Daniel Gallant (USA), Cat Kidd (Canada) and Miles Merrill (Australia). It was a mind- and practice-expanding experience, and I put together the core of a new piece that is different to anything I have made before. It continues the integration of my visual art, writing and performance interests and will be the subject of more development, and potentially some collaboration over the next six months or so. Watch this space!

My new exhibition ‘Wash/Backwash’ opens at M16 Artspace, Narrabundah on Thursday 7 February at 6pm. Come for the excellent, nibbles and - of course! - art. My show includes a video installation and ceramic works that look at the relationship between the felt experience of emotion, alongside the current neuroscience on the construction of emotion in our brains.

Also opening that evening - Interchange, a group exhibition featuring members of both Ausglass and the New Zealand Society of Artists in Glass (NZSAG), and Softly, woven works by Ruby Berry.

Words in Flight - first Canberra Show

After a first outing at the Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland, I am looking forward to performing ‘Words in Flight’ for the home crowd! This piece of poetic theatre - or is it theatrical poetry? - is written and performed by me, and directed by the wonderful Ruth Pieloor. Come and fly with me - on balloons, parachutes, planes, broomsticks, swings - and, of course, bird’s wings!

It will be part of That Poetry Thing that is on at Smith’s every Monday Night on Monday 4 February 2019. The show starts at 7pm with Tony Steven William’s book launch, with me as your chaser! Look forward to seeing you there.
